During the tour, you will learn which old objects of Vilnius Old Town have not survived to the present day, which objects were partially preserved and which were rebuilt in different centuries. We will look for “missing“ objects and their fragments: for remnants of churches, palaces, manors and of the defensive wall of Vilnius which have survived only in archives and narratives. You will find out how the tower of the Upper Castle (Gediminas) and the Lower Castle (Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania) were rebuilt, how the architecture of buildings, their purpose and the cityscape changed in different centuries. We will consider how we could give meaning to the objects which have not survived to the present day, how we can make them visible to today’s society.
